The Shire has approximately 5,000 residents. With a unique landscape of large areas of untouched bushland, state forest and wetlands the Shire is a wonderful place to visit (with the Bindoon Bakehaus & Café being a main attraction) and an ideal place to live, offering a variety of semi-rural lifestyle options.

The local economy is based on broad-acre farming, orchards and small agricultural holdings.  There is limited industry; gravel, clay and sand extraction; the State Livestock Centre (WAMIA); mineral sands processing (Tronox); nurseries; viticulture; wineries; and other small businesses.
