Members First

We believe it is important to support our members first. We often source from member cafes and clubs for the catering for our Business After Hours. Our beer, liquor, and ice we purchase from member pubs and bottleshops. We look to our members for equipment hire and purchases. Several of our economic development projects require additional expertise or time outside of our WBN staff resources, and we aim to outsource to members. When our staff and committee are traveling we use our members that provide short stay accommodation.

If you are a cafe, professional service, bottleshop, retail store, post office, newsagent, hardware, function centre, hotel or bed and breakfast… You might be surprised to learn the WBN can and want to support you! By joining the WBN you become a member and automatically a preferred supplier!

Our Policy

  • The WBN will only source products and services from its members
  • Where no member offers the product or service required at the time or within our budget then the WBN will purchase from another Wheatbelt based business in the first instance
  • Where the value of an individual contract for goods or services has a value (or annual value) more than $1500 procurement will be by competitive quotes – up to 3. All members will be given an opportunity to submit quotes to provide goods and services in their field of operation under this circumstance – a request will be placed in e-news and our website. It will be the responsibility of the member to check these communication channels regularly. Information supplied by members quoting will remain confidential.
  • This policy will be published on the WBN website and will operate transparently.
  • The WBN expects our suppliers to deliver their services in a fair and inclusive manner.
  • A decision to place an order for goods or services will be made on criteria such as:
    • Price/value for money;
    • Location in relation to event or installation;
    • Quality of product and/or service; and,
    • Speed of delivery
  • There is no appeal process.
  • This policy may be amended from time to time. It will be reviewed annually. Any variations will be published on the WBN website.

Supporting the Region

We believe all Wheatbelt businesses should look within the region first for suppliers of their goods and services. We have an internal review process that puts our members at the top of our procurement policy, followed by others in the region, and lastly we look outside of the Wheatbelt.

We encourage you to follow this best practice approach and support the region in which you operate!
